Fitness – Maintaining a Vigorous Body Weight

Physical fitness has become increasingly important in our society as the population becomes older and more prone to illness. While the majority of us get plenty of exercise each day, many don’t get the kinds of regular physical activity that keep them physically fit. Inactivity leads to weight gain, a decline in bone density and a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease. If you want to stay healthy and fit, it’s important to stick with a regular fitness routine. You don’t have to go to a fancy gym to get started. In fact, for most people, exercise at home is enough to keep them in good physical shape.

Maintaining a consistent physical activity level is one of the best ways to boost your overall fitness levels. Your body needs time to adjust to changes in your lifestyle, so it’s important to make the switch from heavy exercise to something more mild. To help you break into a routine, figure out your current fitness levels. If you’re inactive, begin taking steps to become more active. If you are active but find that your fitness levels aren’t where they should be, begin to gradually increase your activity level.

As you work on improving your overall fitness level, you also need to pay attention to your body composition. Body composition is an important part of determining your overall health, but it’s also a key element in determining your fitness levels. The proportion of your body fat to your lean body mass (exercise physiology experts refer to this as “composition” because it basically means how much of your body is composed of water) plays a large role in determining your health risks. If you’re carrying excess fat, you may be at greater risk for heart disease or diabetes; conversely, if you have a high percentage of muscle mass, you may be less at risk for these and other health problems.

In addition to increasing your physical activity level, you should also consider making some lifestyle changes. Reduce your sedentary lifestyle and increase your exercise routines. Try to find some time each day when you can work out without having to worry about wasting time waiting for a bus or finding parking. Make fitness training a priority in your life. A simple monthly commitment to fitness training can go a long way toward maintaining a healthy body.

As you establish your fitness goals and your body composition, you can begin to develop a workout program around those fitness goals. For instance, if you’re trying to lose some weight, you can include some forms of resistance training in your daily exercise routine. Resistance exercises, which use special equipment, usually target one area of your body at a time, building strength and increasing resistance while working muscles. For example, lifting weights in the gym, running on a treadmill, or even doing push-ups, sit-ups, and chin-ups involve resistance that works muscles in different ways.

The benefits of fitness training may not be felt immediately, but over time the body will be able to adjust to regular exercise routines. As you become fitter and healthier, you will be able to enjoy improved health and a decreased risk of developing many chronic and life threatening diseases. If you have already been inactive or have been suffering from some of the physical conditions described above, incorporating some form of fitness into your life can help you start feeling better and improving your quality of life.
