Skin care is the collection of practices that support skin health, improve its appearance and alleviate many skin conditions. They may consist of proper application of emollients, prevention of too much sun exposure and correct use of moisturizers. Skin care may also involve exfoliation and laser resurfacing to increase the collagen and elasticity in the skin. Skin care products are available in the form of lotions, creams, gels and lotions. All of these products are used for the purpose of skin care.
Cleanser is considered as the first step of skin care. It removes all the dirt, grease and make-up from the face and other parts of the body. There are different kinds of cleansers like medicated soaps, cleansing oils, alcohol-based cleansers and oily skin care cleansers. A cleansing oil is a liquid that is slightly richer in oil than ordinary soap and that contains a medicinal value. Alcohol-based cleansers are suitable for persons who suffer with acne problems and they also remove excess sebum from the face. Oil-based toners act as a light exfoliation and an oil-based moisturizer acts as a perfect moisturizer.
After cleansing, the second step in a skin-care routine is toning. In toning, the product loosens the dead cells, unclogs the pores and boosts the production of new cells and fibers. The toner must contain ingredients that will help restore the pH balance of the skin. Most toners contain mild astringents like glycerin, salicylic acid and glycolic acid and antibacterial ingredients like triclosan and chlorhexidine gluconate.
Every now and then, you need to use moisturizers. Moisturizing the face once or twice a day is a part of the skin care routine. A moisturizer which is too greasy will clog the pores. To choose the right moisturizer for your skin, you should consult a board-certified dermatologist. Make sure the moisturizer you use every time is not a lotion, cream or facial wash.
Every once in a while, you may want to use special skin-care routines like for example cleansing, toning and serum. Cleansing serums remove impurities, dirt and makeup residues while toning tightens and firms the skin. Special serums which reduce the signs of aging like wrinkles and fine lines are available.
Oily skin care routine involves washing, exfoliating and moisturizing at least twice a day. If you have oily skin, it is best to wash once in the morning and once in the evening. Washing your face in the morning with a gentle cleanser is the best way to do it. After the wash, pat dry with a soft towel and apply a moisturizer to seal the moisture in your skin.
